  • Aphrodisias İzmir
    205 €

Aphrodisias was a small Greek city in the province of Caria. Current ancient city is located nearby the village of Geyre. It takes approx. 2.5 hours drive (140 miles) from Kusadasi to reach Aphrodisias. Aphrodisias, unlike Ephesus has never been a port city. The city is 62 miles inland from the coast. Aphrodisias is 2000 feet above sea level and located by the 8000 feet mountain called Babadag (known as Salbakos in the ancient times). The city before adopting the name ''Aphrodisias'', it was named as Lelegeopolis, Megapolis and Ninoi. Aphrodisias, covers an area of 200 acres and generally is a flat city.
Unlike many other ancient cities in Anatolia, Aphrodisias

was discovered by a famous Turkish photographer Mr. Ara Guler in 1958. He was travelling through villages and towns. He was in the village of Geyre and noted a village that has so many ancient remains that the villagers live without knowing their importances. Afterwards Ara Guler was in touch with the Turkish Archaeologist Mr. Kenan Erim from New York University. Excavations began in 1960s. Kenan Erim devoted his life to excavate this ancient city. Since this city is lately discovered, you do not see any remains from this city in British Museum or any other museums outside Turkey.

    Ephesus (Efeze) Tours
    145 €

The ancient Greek city of Ephesus, also know as Efeze, was once one of the world’s greatest cities. It ranked only behind Rome in its size and importance during the Roman period, at which time (1st century BC) it was the second largest city in the world.

Famed for its Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, Ephesus has an incredible number of ruins that, with just a small amount of imagination, can take you back to what life was like for ancient Greeks and Romans.

Ephesus’s most spectacular site has to be the façade of the Library of Celsus. Constructed between 110 and 135AD, the library originally had three floors and its galleries were stocked with scrolls, and a reading room faced east to take advantage of the morning light. An earthquake destroyed the Library in the 10th century (along with most of the city). The gorgeous façade and front portico that can be seen today were reconstructed in the 1970s.

Other sites include the Theater, Basilica of St. John, the Cave of the Seven Sleepers, Church of Mary, House of the Virgin, the Isabey Mosque, the Prytaneion, the synagogue and the Temple of Hadrian. All the sites are in varying states of disrepair. Unfortunately, all that remains of the Temple of Artemis, rumoured to have been four times as large as the Parthenon and constructed entirely of marble, is one lone column standing in a marshy basin.

Ephesus is also one of the seven churches of Asia listed in the Bible's Book of Revelations. Because of the city's ties to biblical figures, it is an important sacred site for Christians as well as a historical one. But Christianity is not the only religion represented in the ruins - there is also the Isabey Mosque, as well as the foundations of what was likely a synagogue.

  • Pergamon Tours İzmir
    Pergamon Tours
    140 €

Pergamon is an ancient city dating as far back as the 5th century BC. Credited with the invention of parchment, this once great seat of learning and culture had a library with over 20,000 volumes and a medical center  - the remains of which can still be seen today.

Listed in the Bible as one of the Seven Churches of Asia, Pergamon flourished until the 14th century when, under Ottoman rule, it was abandoned and left to decay. Today, much of the remains of this once magnificent city lie underneath the modern-day city of Bergama but, thanks to Pergamon’s hilltop position, the remains of its most important buildings are still visible.

The Acropolis of Pergamon is clearly visible from anywhere in Bergama and closer inspection will reveal two partially reconstructed temples (Temple of Trajan and the Temple of Athena), ancient aqueducts and the incredible hillside theater, which is said to contain the steepest theater seating in the world.

    Mylasa, Euromos, Herakleia and Iassos

The once proud cities of Caria are hidden in the countryside. The present day town of Milas stands on the foundations of the ancient city of Mylasa, earliest capital of Caria. Much of the ancient city has been built over, but Roman walls, Byzantine columns and early pre-Ottoman mosques blend into the fabric of the old town with some beautiful examples of prosperous 19th century houses and the caravanseray, all worth seeing. The village comes to town on Tuesday; market day, giving a glimpse of older ways of life. Iassos was the wealthy fishery and port in Roman times, and excavations have brought to light the foundations of the city. The Carian outpost of Herakleia, lies on the banks of Lake Bafa set in the legendary landscape of Latmos mountains. The temple of Euromos stands tall and lonely, amongst the fields and trees that hide the city.
